The Pinedorado Lions Foundation
Cambria Youth Music Scholarship Fund
A Brief History
The Cambria Community Chorale has long been a principal supporter of the Cambria Youth Music Scholarship Fund. Proceeds from a 1995 reprise of the first Cambria Follies, which featured many Chorale and the Lions Club members, provided the seed money to start the program. A portion of the profits from the Chorale Concerts and the annual Recital and Tea featuring our Music Scholarship students will provide music lessons for students who show talent in vocal or instrumental music and need financial assistance to continue with their musical training. We also depend on private donations to assist in our efforts. Some choose to donate to the Fund commemorating friends and family members' birthdays and anniversaries. All donations are tax-deductible.
Scholarship Requirements
A student must have talent, dedication, and financial need to qualify for the program. The parent pays for the first lesson each month, and the fund pays for one, two, or three subsequent lessons depending on financial need. The Scholarship committee accepts applications in January and June. Applications are available from the Music Scholarship Committee or our website.
Jim Fitzgerald Outstanding Achievement Award
In 2007, the Scholarship Fund Committee established the annual Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music in honor of Jim Fitzgerald, a beloved director of the Cambria Chorale for six years. Jim dedicated his life to music, both teaching in the classroom, and working to bring music into the community. When he died in 2006, his family requested donations he made to the Cambria Chorale’s Youth Music Fund. All of our scholarship students are eligible for nomination for this award. Nomination forms are available from the committee. Deadline for submitting forms is the 1st week of March each year.
Scholarship Students
Many of the students that have gone through our program, have received college and university scholarships and have gone on to major in music and the arts. They continue to thrive in their chosen fields, and we are gratified that we have a small part in their being able to continue their studies and pursue their dreams They are keeping music alive in a world that needs music more than ever.
